Our society is fast accepting success as giving back to the community. And one way you can reach an effective solution for social problems is through social enterprise, also known as a social business. You can achieve specific social objectives while you are still making money with them.

Australia’s Social Enterprise Sector came up with a complete definition. They defined social enterprises as organizations led by an economic, social, cultural, or environmental mission consistent with a public or community benefit. Furthermore, you can see social enterprise as an organization that gets a sizeable portion of its income from trading. And as a partner, you can reinvest most of your profit into your set social objectives.

So while being engaged with social enterprise maximizes your profit, your business values are still hinged on giving back to society and the environment. Social enterprises have a common trait of funding social programs. However, you are not part of a charity – because social enterprises are charities. Unlike charities, social enterprises do not rely on outside funding alone to fulfill their social goals.

You will find social enterprises essential to the progressive society because it allows you to participate. Alongside a minimum number of paid employees, you as a stakeholder can be well involved in the business proceedings. Apart from hands-on participation, if you are a beneficiary or affiliate donor, social enterprises pay directly for the goods and services they are offering you. You can then help the social enterprise, as a beneficiary, to supply their goods and services to an expanded market.

Another importance of social enterprise is how their social objective can be seen in their employment. Job seekers from an at-risk section of the community are given preference during employment. Here, members of groups that have been marginalized because of race, gender, age, language, immigration status, and physical abilities are prioritized. This selection process may even be the sole goal of a social enterprise – to take in at-risk employees.

I find engaging in social enterprises crucial because I can be part of highlighting public views. Growing public interest has a better chance of success because of social enterprises’ contributions. Not only will you fuel public views and interests, but you can also empower the public to make more ethical and social choices.

The world needs change, and social enterprise is the best organization to deliver such change. With this business setting, you can satisfy monetary profit and implement positive world changes. The social contribution that you can make are countless. Some of these contributions include healthcare, homelessness, child labor, etc.

In conclusion, social enterprises are major contributors to community, empowerment, integrity, diversity, ownership, and innovation. Through these social advantages, you, as a participator in the social enterprise, will be at the forefront of overcoming poverty and many other problems such as education, health, internet, and technology access. With this, you can be part of the few who are giving back to society. There is nothing more rewarding than giving back and making a difference in people’s lives in your community.

And you know that you are making a difference, with more than 120,000 children being nourished every day in countries around the world.

According to the World Food Program poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five – 3.1 million children each year.

66 million primary school-age children attend classes hungry, with 23 million in Africa alone.

With millions of children dying each year from causes related to malnutrition, it is apparent that existing humanitarian efforts are not adequate to address this pressing global problem.
