Pushing Through Obstacles (Until You Make it to the Other Side!)

If you personally have ever dreamt about becoming a pro basketball player but the surrounding factors (economic status, pessimistic people, etc) are ‘nay-sayers’ then you should meet Eric Bailey. Raised in South Central Los Angeles (a notoriously rough area of the world, filled with poverty, gang violence and drugs) and born with a congenital deformity of the knee, it would have been easy for someone like him to say no to life’s opportunities and settle with a so-so life.

Luckily, he had other plans.

Eric was and is a visionary, and knew his life was about something else, something bigger.  Becoming a pro basketball player despite the odds against him was just the beginning. He became a top salesman, wrote a weekly newspaper column and hosted an on-air radio show. Today he leads by example speaking to over 1.5 million people. He pushed through his obstacles early in life, so what are doing about yours?

Here’s how to avoid life’s pitfalls, jump over the holes in the road and pick a path. (Tip: the road less travelled is a whole lot more fun!)

  • We often make the mistake of avoiding obstacles at all costs, but that’s not always the right approach. Sure, we don’t want to keep repeating the same mistakes over and over (dating co-dependent people who stifle our growth, a dead end job, etc.) but we don’t want to eliminate all opportunities that can possibly contain success. Take chances and when they don’t work out, reward yourself for the bravery it took to try and know that you are one step closer to making your dreams happen.
  • Write it all down. Write down your strengths (what qualities make you indefinably unique) as well as the challenges you face (what you want to work on). If you want to be making more money or find that life partner, write down what that would look like. The more descriptive you can be on paper, the closer you will be to attaining your goals in real life and expect it (and nothing less!)
  • Increase your vibrations. If you’ve felt repeatedly fatigued or experienced a lack of work ethic in the past or present, it could be low energy vibrations. The idea behind vibrations is simple: since we are all beings of energy, negative events in our life breed negative thoughts and vice versa. Change the things that happen to you by increasing your positive thoughts. One of the best ways to do this is listening to a positive mentor like Eric Bailey, who has inspired millions.
