It’s 2015 – What Now?

Okay. So, it’s 2015. What now? Looking back over the past few years of making New Year resolutions and breaking all those promises to yourself – where are you now? What direction are you taking to achieve those goals? Are you going to just keep making the same mistakes year after year? It’s time to make a change and 2015 is the time to do it!

Yes – we all have great intentions at the beginning of the New Year. “This year is going to be different.……… I am going to lose those extra kilos………. I am going to go to the gym at least 3 times a week………. I am going to visit my parents each week………. I am going to get an average of a B on all my assessment tasks……….” And the list goes on. Why do most people struggle to keep their promises to themselves? Sometimes we have such high goals that they are impossible or at least very challenging and we struggle to achieve them. So we fail and then we give up until the next year. It’s important to have achievable, small goals especially to start with and then you can build on that success. Also, we tend to look far into the future rather than our immediate future that we lose a sense of how we are travelling on achieving our goals.

If you use the same formula year after year to become bigger and better on the path to achieving your goals, you will get the same result. If you are succeeding – that is great. Keep doing what you are doing and always look at ways to improve. But if you are not succeeding it’s important to look carefully and honestly at your mindset and actions to make sure you don’t get caught in a vicious circle. Learn from the past but always look to the future.
