GRATITUDE: How to Solve a Problem By Making it Irrelevant

Want to know how to solve a problem – ANY problem – quickly and easily?

Last week, we talked about going ALL-IN. We learned that if you want to achieve any big goal, no matter what it is, you need to be FULLY committed to it – no excuses, no retreat, no surrender. Going all-in guarantees success, because even if you fail, you still get that much closer to your goal!

Now, hopefully, you’re still on track. Hopefully you’ve made some progress in getting some of the “stumbling blocks” to your goal out of the way, and you’ve taken some steps closer to your dreams.

But in case you’re not, don’t worry. I’m about to show you a “cool trick” today that’s going to make even the BIGGEST PROBLEM you have a WHOLE LOT EASIER to tackle.

In fact, this “cool trick” is going to fill you with the kind of energy that makes you WANT to face your fears, and destroy them completely, so that you get THAT MUCH CLOSER to your dreams.

What is it? Simple. My BIG MESSAGE for today is:

That’s right – be GRATEFUL. It’s the art of simply sitting back, smiling, and saying “thank you.” Why is BEING GRATEFUL one of the most powerful problem solving techniques you can have?

Let me give an example to explain. Let’s say you got a BIG PROBLEM in front of you.

If you’re a student, let’s say you got a course you got to pass… but you’ve never passed that course before.

Or if you’re an employee, let’s say you just got an ultimatum from your boss – shape up, or ship out.

Or if you’re a business owner, let’s say you need to get out of the red and into the black in the next six months, or your partners will quit on you.

In these situations, you might think the battle is in the classroom, or the office, or the boardroom. Nope. The battle starts in your mind.

Most people fail because in their mind, they know they’ve failed already. They know they “have no chance.” So no matter how hard they’ll try, they’ll end up failing the course, losing the job, or closing the business.

Are you like that? Do you try to solve problems with a “losing” mindset?

I got one suggestion for you. BE GRATEFUL. Because here’s the truth about the problems and struggles in your life:

Let me tell you the story behind Carman’s Muesli, the Australian muesli brand that’s known the world over. Carman’s Muesli is a big name here in Australia, and its products are on store shelves in more than 30 other countries, too. It’s BIG.

But did you know that Carman’s Muesli actually started with a CHANCE?

Many years ago, when Carolyn Ceswell was only 18 years old, she was working part-time making muesli for a tiny business. One day, she realized that company was about to go bankrupt, and she was about to lose her job.

If you were Carolyn, what would you have done?

Most other people would shrug and say, “That’s okay, I’ll find another job.” But not Carolyn. She loved muesli so much that she decided to take a chance… so she shelled out $1,000 to buy the business and got right down to work.

Seven years of hard work and persistence later, Carman’s Muesli arrived on store shelves – and it was a HUGE HIT. Today, Carman’s Muesli a successful international brand, earning more than $50 million a year.

And it all started with Carolyn seeing something that most people didn’t see. When a problem came, she saw it as a CHANCE, and not a CHALLENGE.

Friends, what do YOU see in your problems?

Here’s precisely why, in my opinion, gratitude is the best problem solving technique out there:

You See Your Work as an Opportunity,
Not an Obligation

Last week, I asked you to write your ONE BIG GOAL on a sheet of paper. Under it, number two, I asked you to write the “stumbling blocks” that were keeping you from achieving that one big goal. And number three, I asked you to write down two or three things you can do RIGHT NOW to get those stumbling blocks out of the way.

I’d like to take a look at those two or three things you wrote yourself to do last week. How well did it go?

If it’s going really well, then keep going. You don’t know how happy that makes me. I hope you go all the way to the top!

But if it’s NOT going too well… if you’re having a lot of trouble doing what you said you’d do, or if it’s too hard, or if you can’t find the time to do it… then I’m willing to bet that even before you tried, you already “lost the battle” in your mind.

If you’re a student, and you wrote that you need to study for an hour longer each day… then I bet you were thinking, “Oh man… I got to study an hour longer each day.”

Or if you’re a homemaker, and you wrote that you need to cut costs so you can start saving for your vacation… then I bet you were thinking, “Oh man… I got to cut costs.”

Want to learn that “cool trick” that’s going to make even the biggest problems much easier to deal with?

Here it is. Instead of saying, “Oh man, I got to do this,” say: “WOO-HOO! I GET TO DO THIS!”

That’s gratitude on overdrive!

Try saying it. “YES! I GET to study an hour longer,” or “YES! I GET to cut costs!”

Feel how it fills you with energy to do what you need to do.

Now, you might think that you’re just “fooling” yourself to do the work. You’re not. Here’s why: If you’re a student, and you’re reading this article on a computer, that means you have access to the Internet… which means you can basically DO ANYTHING YOU NEED TO SUCCEED.

Too many kids out there can’t study because they’re broke and they got to work, or they’re stuck in gangs, or they’re in jail. You’re not any of that. You’re blessed. Now don’t mess up the opportunity!

Likewise, if you’re a homemaker and you need to cut costs, you got to remember that there are people out there who don’t even have a roof over their head. They don’t have the modern conveniences you have. They’d do absolutely ANYTHING to have a job and bills to pay.

From now on, don’t say “I got to.” Say, “I GET to.” That’s gratitude in action!

Blog 2-1-2

Until next week, here’s your homework. Get another sheet of paper and fold it into four sections.

In the first section, list down the PEOPLE in your life that you’re thankful to have.

In the second section, list down the SKILLS that you have that you’re thankful for.

In the third section, list down the THINGS you own that you’re thankful for.

In the fourth section, list down the SITUATIONS in your life that you’re thankful for.

And at the bottom of the sheet of paper, write down in BIG, BOLD letters: “THANK YOU!”

Now tape that piece of paper where you can see it everyday, reminding you to be grateful no matter what happens.

Remember, you have everything you need. You have the OPPORTUNITY. You have the DIRECTION. You have the MOTIVATION. You are BLESSED.

You now know how to solve a problem by making it irrelevant. Now use your new problem solving skills to reach your dreams!

This is your friend, Eric Bailey, reminding you to stay HUMBLE… and stay HUNGRY.

See you next week!
